Habemus Papam! Welcome Pope Francis!

After just two days since the conclave started in Vatican City, white smoke appeared on the Sistine Chapel chimney which indicates that the College of Cardinals have chosen a new pope that will lead the Catholic Church.

He is Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio from Argentina, 76 years old and a Jesuit priest has been elevated as the newest pope replacing the position by Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. The conclave which started Tuesday (March 12) has been much awaited by many Catholics around the world and is the first conclave that trended in the social media era.

Earlier before the last conclave, a seagull stood on top of the Sistine Chapel's chimney where the smoke is awaited. Many people consider this as a sign, and true enough, the signal of the smoke was seen and people ran to Saint Peter's Square to hear the announcement of "Habemus Papam" on the balcony of Saint Peter's Basilica, the whole world awaits the emergence of the new pope which many are rooting for their own cardinals, like Cardinal Tagle from the Philippines. With speculations and analysts saying that the new pope would come from Italy or any European state  is what many would expect. However, when the new pope walked to face the public all were happy and sometimes ecstatic.

Cardinal Bergoglio chose the name Francis (Franciscum in Latin) as his pope name which maybe referenced to two saints, Saint Francis of Assisi who is known for humble living, love for animals and faithfulness, and another would be Saint Francis Xavier who is a Jesuit missionary which traveled through Asia for evangelization.

It is noticed that the modern popes are showing more acts of humility like Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI to show that pope are indeed "servants of the servants of God". He also asked the faithful to "bless him" as he blesses them. He also rode not on the Papal limousine but on the same bus with the Cardinals. With the  global church still under fire with scandals and  challenges of the modern world. Pope Francis sparks hope for the renewal and rebuilding of the Catholic Church .

He also made history as the first South American Pope, first Jesuit Pope, and a non-European pope after 1300 years. He is also the first pope to trend on social media site upon his election.
