Bahay SCAn has been a shelter for youth leaders especially for the Student Catholic Action of the Philippines. Due to the humid weather and cold temperatures, the colors of the center faded but never its use for the organization. Now its needs a new paint job to provide a new facade for Bahay SCAn.

The Canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII

Today April 27, 2014 will be a historical day for catholic especially the youth as two popes now ascend their titles from blessed into saints. Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II will now be canonized into the company of saints with the ceremony to be led by Pope Francis.

Blessed Pope John XXIII  or Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (25 November 1881 – 3 June 1963), was Pope from 28 October 1958 until 1963. His legacy included the Second Vatican Council which paved the ways with reforms in the church which was widely accepted and has also brought simplicity yet pious changes with the Catholic population. He was beatified September 3, 2000.

While we are trying our best to render at least a little relief in many centers and temporary shelters for our dear kababayan from Yolanda-stricken regions and finding a sense of it all, let us come together to learn and to pray as a community of young believers. Habemus Papam! Welcome Pope Francis!

After just two days since the conclave started in Vatican City, white smoke appeared on the Sistine Chapel chimney which indicates that the College of Cardinals have chosen a new pope that will lead the Catholic Church. 

He is Jorge Mario Cardinal Bergoglio from Argentina, 76 years old and a Jesuit priest has been elevated as the newest pope replacing the position by Pope emeritus Benedict XVI. The conclave which started Tuesday (March 12) has been much awaited by many Catholics around the world and is the first conclave that trended in the social media era. 

The Resignation of Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI suprized the world with his announcement of his resignation as the supreme pontif of the Catholic Church. It was unusual for Popes to resign since their title would usually be with them until their death. But he shares his letter on the real reason of his resignation with the letter below:

The gospel for this Sunday tells us about signs of end times,  skies falling, hunger, chaos etc., but the assurance of the presence of God is there. Coincidentally this year is also associated with a possible end of the world scenario based on the Mayan calendar which refers to "reset" the world. In this scenario, people would usually say that if ever that day comes, they would do good to their family and friends. But why only when we know it still far, why right today where you can't delay doing good for them? Why also delay doing good for yourself (myself included). It's actually almost the  end of the liturgical year and on our way to advent and Christmas (which we look forward to), why first focus on what stage are we right now?
